Know what each desk really makes.
The Desk P&L Kit shows profit per consultant, the fees each person needs to break even, how much of your income rests on your top three clients, and who owes you money. Fill in the yellow cells; everything else works itself out.
Comes filled in with a made-up three-consultant agency so you can see how it works. Type over it with your own numbers.
Five sheets, one view of the business.
Dashboard
Fees, profit and margin for the year, each consultant's contribution, month by month against your running costs.
Team
Each person's fully loaded cost (salary, employer NI, pension, other costs, a share of overheads), commission, and the fees they need to break even.
Placements
One row per placement. Fee, days to get paid and money owed work themselves out, and each placement is tagged by where the candidate came from.
Clients
Who your fees depend on, and what each client owes you now.
Funnel
CVs and interviews per placement, offer acceptance, and how many briefs turn into fees.
Employer National Insurance and pension are simplified estimates you can change. A planning tool, not accounting or tax advice. Use candidate references, not names, in the placement log.
What owners usually learn in the first ten minutes.
- Fees ÷ cost for each person. Below 1.0 means that desk costs more than it brings in once salary, NI, pension and overheads are counted.
- Top three clients' share of fees. If it's over half, losing one client would hurt badly.
- Fees from people you already knew. Tag each placement by where the candidate came from, and see how much your database already earns you.
